Hi, my name is Andy Hood, I’m the chairman of the board of directors. This means I am responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the organisation. It is my job to make sure that the directors, both executive and non-executive operate within the best interests of the company, crucially this means ensuring that we both operate within the articles of understanding, but also being responsible for assuring that every decision we make is in the best interests of the children and communities we work with. You might ask why I’m qualified to make these decisions, and you’d be right to do so. Well, I have over 15 years experiences of working with children young people and families. I started my career working with young people in residential care and have subsequently worked both as a practitioner manager and leader with young offenders, care leavers, families in need of help and support and as a consultant worked with international organisations to provide advice and guidance on working with families with complex needs. In my current substantive role as head of Targeted Youth Support Services for Doncaster Children’s Services Trust I oversee the delivery of youth offending services, care leaving services and prevention services. In my spare time you will find me teaching care leavers to cook as part of my “Cooking with Andy” programme. I am a huge believer in the idea that the future of young people is determined by what they are exposed to and what we can teach them in terms of the value of community, aspiration and empathy. Flying Futures provides opportunities for young people to become the future leaders of tomorrow and it’s my responsibility to ensure that the organization has everything it needs to make those opportunities a reality.
