I finished my degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University in May 2015 and started working at Flying Futures in November 2015. I feel privileged to be able to work in the area which I am genuinely passionate about. During my youth I was fortunate enough to play for Hull City and Doncaster Rovers and I currently play for Goole AFC. I also enjoy playing cricket during the summer, as-well as golf and squash. Whilst at university I completed a placement semester at Queen Elizabeth’s High School in Gainsborough, it was during this time that I really developed an interest in coaching and guiding young people to their full potential. I also volunteered at Blue Skies holiday camp during the summer months which helped me in gaining vital knowledge and experience required for my role at Flying Futures.
At Flying Futures I manage the Future Communities directive. We are responsible for the delivery of a number of community engagement programmes including: 5 Star Active, StreetGames, Children in Need and the BT & Rio Ferdinard Foundation skills for work boot-camps and traineeships. These programmes aim to engage young people in sport & physical activity at a time and place which is convenient for them, there are then further opportunities for the young people to develop themselves by gaining accredited qualifications which will help them with future employment. We deliver a range of activities in ‘hard to reach’ areas of Doncaster. If participants meet certain criteria they then have the opportunity to attend the BT boot-camps and traineeships which will help them discover their career goals and equip them with essential skills required for the world of work.
