I sit on the Board of Flying Futures as a non-executive director. I am an independent voice on the Board and the role involves constructively challenging the company’s strategy; scrutinising the performance of the business; ensuring that controls are in place to cover key areas of risk; and in using my industry contacts to further develop what we deliver as a business. It is an incredibly varied and rewarding role and I thoroughly enjoy working with the other members of the Board, despite the odd disagreement! I’m currently the Head of Communications & Public Affairs at Harworth Group plc, one of the UK’s leading land and property regeneration companies. Part of Harworth’s work involves redeveloping former industrial brownfield land across the North of England and the Midlands into new housing and commercial developments, delivering thousands of new homes and jobs. I’m passionate about regenerating areas that have suffered from economic decline in the past to create something vibrant for the future; this is exactly why I became a Director with Flying Futures. Flying Futures achieves spectacular results for the young people that engage on any of our programmes across the North. Seeing the difference we make and testing out new ideas that could significantly improve the lives of those we work with are the only motivations I need to continue my work with the Board.
