As #TakeTheReins heads to the starting gates, we wanted to share with you a breakdown of what our first event, Give and Gain Day, will look like!

Twenty young people from Malton and Goole will join us on Friday 21st April to take part in our Give and Gain volunteer day. The day will begin at Richard Fahey’s Musley Bank Yard whereby participants will be greeted by our programme ambassadors and famous jockeys Adam McNamara (#TakeTheReins) and Hayley Turner (5 Star Active).

Adam and Hayley will accompany participants on a tour around the yard, sharing with them their success stories as well as their experiences of working within the industry. Participants will see and hear first hand the type of work that goes into preparing a horse and rider for race events before having a go themselves!

After the tour, participants will visit the Gallops to see Richard Fahey at work and ask him questions about working in the industry. This will give participants the chance to gain valuable insight into the variety of roles and job opportunities that exist within the industry itself.

Within the #TakeTheReins programme lies an element of community outreach. As such, in the afternoon, participants will visit Jack Berry House – a rehabilitation centre set up by the Injured Jockeys Fund which provides specialist support and assistance to those who have sustained life-changing injuries through the sport. Participants will visit the centre, check out its facilities and learn about the incredible work being undertaken by the Fund itself.

Be sure to follow our social media coverage on the day and search #TakeTheReins17 to find out exactly what are participants get up to!
