The chances programme is an evidence based sport and activity programme based on 20 years or research with organisations in the Sport for Development sector. It embraces influences from the sport, youth work and criminal justice sectors and is defined by a purposeful intention to change , rather than simply manage, young people’s behaviour and lives.
The Chances programme is aligned with current Government policy, articulated through ‘Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation’ (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, 2015) and ‘Towards An Active Nation’ (Sport England, 2016). Both strategies are focused on the use of sport and physical activity to improve personal, social and community development outcomes through the use of insight, behaviour change principles and partnership working.
