Who can take part?
You may be eligible if…
Pathways to Work is designed for people facing barriers to employment. The team will confirm eligibility and help you find the right support.
Ask about eligibilityCore target groups
- You are aged 16-24 and not in education, employment or training (NEET).
- You are in part-time education for 18 hours or fewer and do not receive financial support.
- You are out of work and face a health-related barrier.
- You have recently been made redundant or experienced a major change in circumstances.
- You are out of work and have caring responsibilities.
Other circumstances that may qualify
- You are out of work but do not meet the household income or savings threshold for jobseeker support.
- You have the right to work in the UK but are unable to claim jobseeker benefits.
- You retired below State Pension age and want to return to employment.
- You are out of work but have chosen not to claim jobseeker benefits.
- You receive jobseeker benefits and are struggling to look for work.
Groups given additional priority
Programme funding also prioritises young people, people with disabilities or long-term health conditions, neurodiverse people, Black and minority ethnic communities, LGBTQIA+ people, veterans and ex-forces, and people whose first language is not English.

Next step after Activ Sessions
Level 1 in Fitness and Physical Activity
After first attending the Activ Sessions, participants can progress to this accredited qualification with Active First.
This qualification enables individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required to assist in leading safe and effective exercise sessions. It also enables them to explore career opportunities within the active leisure sector and develop an understanding of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

A few things you may want to know
Is the programme free?
Yes. The Activ Sessions and Pathways to Work support described on this page are free for eligible participants.
Who is the programme for?
It supports people facing barriers to work, including young people aged 16-24 who are not in education, employment or training. Other circumstances can also qualify, so contact the team if you are unsure.
Do I have to attend every Activ Session?
The team will help you understand how the Activ Sessions fit your wider support plan. Ask them about attendance, adjustments and which venue is most suitable for you.
What accredited qualification is available?
After first attending the Activ Sessions, participants can progress to the 90-hour Level 1 in Fitness and Physical Activity with Active First. The accredited qualification starts in November 2026.
What time do the weekly sessions start?
Session times can change. Email activfutures@flyingfutures.org before travelling to confirm the latest time and venue details.
What happens after a referral?
The ActivFutures team will review the information and get in touch to discuss eligibility, goals and the most suitable next step.
Can a parent, professional or partner organisation refer someone?
The referral form is the quickest way to share the relevant details. If you need to discuss a referral first, email the team and they will guide you.
How long does the programme last?
Support is tailored to the person and their circumstances. The team can explain the expected journey and milestones after the initial conversation.
